The brief for this project was to convert a former bakery in a conservation area in the centre of Kirkcaldy into new office premises for Insure Smart; a fast growing commercial insurance company. The building had been used as a bakery for decades and was fairly derelict when purchased by its current owners.
The works involved completely gutting the existing building, at both basement and first floor level. The first floor was opened up as much as was possible within the constraints of the existing building to create a light airy space and pleasant working environment. A generously proportioned reception area was formed with feature lighting and a cool, modern feel to give a good first impression to visitors. Informal meeting rooms adjoin the main reception and waiting space while the main office space is located to the rear of the building and a large conference room retains many period features.
The basement is given over to staff facilities which include a staff room, kitchen, showers and small gym.
