This flat in the Stockbridge Colonies had an unattractive existing 1970's extension with a leaky roof. Under current planning regulations, extensions are not allowed to be built in this conservation area, so the best option for both cost and practicality was to make the best of what was already there.
This involved replacing the roof, enlarging the rooflight, replacing the windows and remodelling the exterior with smooth render and timber cladding. Internally the existing opening between lounge and kitchen was enlarged to allow more light into the lounge. The result is barely recognisable as the same tired looking 1970's extension.
